atlantis: MAME ROM Information.

History:

Battle of Atlantis (c) 1981 Game World.

Your mission : Finish the six tables at all costs by eliminating a maximum of opponents. To Do this you possess a multi-directional laser (ultra-rapid firing) and terrifying torpedo-bombs. Through all 6 tables, build up your bonus by blowing-up the fuel tanks.

Table 1 : Avoid and destroy the floating mines.

Table 2 : The deadly exploding sharks appear as well as the destroyers (avoid their bombs!). Obliterate them with your laser.

Table 3 : You penetrate into an abyssal cavern where redoubtable octopusses lie in wait. The destroyers can only drop their bombs through the thin sides of the cavern.

Table 4 : A complex of towers replaces the lower part of the cavern. As well as the destroyers and octopus, the mines reappear in large numbers.

Table 5 : Accelerated version of Table 4.

Table 6 : You return to Table 1 in an accelerated version but you must face up to all your opponents.

Battle of Atlantis was an original game designed and developed by 'Game World', with the software being commissioned to Comsoft, a software company.

Battle of Atlantis was designed to compete with "Scramble", a leading game at the time.

- SCORING -

One second of survival : 10 points.

Missile : 100 points.

Base : 100 points.

Fish : 200 points.

Spider : 200 points.

Surface Ship : 500 points.

- TIPS AND TRICKS -

* Don't stop shooting - a constant stream of bullets and bombs is the best defense!

* If you move up or down while firing, your forward cannon will fire upwards or downwards as well, enabling you to destroy enemies above or below you.

* Destroy surface ships whenever possible as they are worth the most points.

MAME Info:

0.08 [Nicola Salmoria]

Bugs:

- atlantis, atlants2: When you drop a bomb, the sound doesn't stop after impact. Robbbert (ID 01596)

WIP:

- 0.134u3: Dumping Union and David Heywood added clone Battle of Atlantis (bootleg).

- 4th October 2009: Smitdogg - The PCB was called Sub Fury but it doesn't actually say that on the title screen. It's a bootleg of Battle of Atlantis hacked to run on Galaxian style hardware. Anyway I bought this board a long time ago and it has finally been added. The star field might be incorrect or it might simply be spacey down there.

- 0.133u1: Renamed (atlants2) to (atlantis2).

- 0.124u1: Added Discrete sound. Changed visible area to 224x768 and palettesize to 32 colors.

- 0.98u3: MASH replaced the bad dumped cpu1 rom5 in clone (set 2) with the one from (set 1).

- 0.88u5: Fixed rom names.

- 0.53: Changed palettesize to 99 colors.

- 0.35: Added clone Battle of Atlantis (set 2). Changed parent description to 'Battle of Atlantis (set 1)'. Added missing color prom ($0).

- 0.28: Mike Balfour pointed out that ROM 2H of Battle of Atlantis seems to be bad; that's the cause of the strange coins per credit values. Also added high score saving to Battle of Atlantis. Control: Arrows = Move around, CTRL = Fire and ALT = Bomb. Known issues: You get a massive 14 credits per coin - this is caused by ROM 2H, which seems to be bad.

- 0.15: Sound support in Battle of Atlantis [Nicola Salmoria]. All these require -frameskip 1 on my 486/100. I have no idea how accurate the tempo and pitch is. If you can compare it with a real machine, please let me know what's wrong. Added audio CPU roms 5c, 5d and 5e.

- 0.08: Nicola Salmoria added support for Battle of Atlantis (Comsoft 1981) (a Scramble hack). Known issues: I don't know what most of the dip switches do, and you get 9 credits per coin.
