Released in March 1999.
Cobra and Hornet, the 2 bosses for stage 1 have their codenames based on Konami's Cobra Hardware (which runs the 1997 fighting game "Fighting Bujitsu") and Hornet hardware (which runs Silent Scope).
The twin bosses codenamed 'Tom and Jerry' have their code name inspired by the cartoon cat and mouse duo of the same name.
The female boss, Monica is probably named after Monica Lewinsky who was the intern involved in a scandal with then president Bill Clinton.

MAME Info:
0.135u1 [Guru]
0.86 [Ville Linde]
WIP:
- 0.142u1: Alex Romero added clone Silent Scope (ver xxC, Ver 1.30), not working. Added timekeeper rom m48t58y-70pc1 from the clones to parent set. Changed description of 'Silent Scope (ver JZD)' to 'Silent Scope (ver xxD, Ver 1.33)' and clones 'Silent Scope (ver UAA)' to 'Silent Scope (ver xxA, Ver 1.00)' and 'Silent Scope (ver UAB)' to 'Silent Scope (ver xxB, Ver 1.20)'. Renamed (sscopea) to (sscopeb) and (sscopeb) to (sscopea).
- 0.135u1: Guru added Silent Scope (ver JZD). Renamed (sscopea) to (sscopeb) and (sscope) to (sscopea).
- 0.133u3: Changed RF5C400 sound clock speed to 16934400 Hz.
- 0.127u2: Added M48T58Y RTC/NVRAM timekeeper rom.
- 0.114u3: Added new sound1 roms ($0, 400000 - 4MB) to Silent Scope.
- 0.114u2: Ville Linde fixed a rom loading issue in Silent Scope.
- 13th April 2007: Ville Linde - Silent Scope is starting to work. Not exactly surprising, given the recent developments.
- 0.110u3: Ville Linde added dualscreen support (2x 512x384) for Silent Scope & Silent Scope 2.
- 0.104u8: Added clone Silent Scope (ver UAA). Changed parent description to 'Silent Scope (ver UAB)'.
- 0.104u1: Changed visible area to 1024x384.
- 0.102u2: Aaron Giles rewrote the Voodoo emulation code and added support for multiple simultaneous boards (Silent Scope).
- 0.102u1: Added RF5C400 stereo sound. Changed region user4 to sound1.
- 0.102: Added 2nd ADSP21062 (36MHz) CPU and dipswitches 'Screen Flip (H)/(V)', 'Harness' and 'Monitor Type'.
- 0.97u2: Removed user4 roms ($c00000 and e00000).
- 0.97u1: Added ADSP21062 (36MHz) CPU3. Changed user4 to user5 roms. Added dipswitches 'Test Mode', '24/15KHz' and 'DIP2-DIP7'.
- 5th June 2005: Ville Linde - Turns out that Konami Hornet and NWK-TR games require some preformatted data in their backup RAMs (probably as a protective measure). So far I've managed to find the correct values for Gradius 4, Silent Scope, Racing Jam and Racing Jam 2, leaving Silent Scope 2 and Thrill Drive to be done. Silent Scope and Racing Jam start to boot but end up spinning much like Racing Jam 2.
- 25th May 2005: Ville Linde - I've continued my progress on my Analog Devices ADSP-2106x SHARC core. The results are finally starting to show. The 3Dfx chips have also been hooked up already. Silent Scope currently passes all the tests on the first graphics board. The second board isn't emulated yet.
- 0.86: Ville Linde added Silent Scope (Konami 1999) and various other Konami PPC based games: GTI Club, Gradius 4, Silent Scope 2, Racing Jam, Racing Jam: Chapter 2, Thrill Drive, Midnight Run and Winding Heat. These are to demonstrate the PPC core in action, they contain only very preliminary emulation and do nothing more than display the initial test screens.
- 4th July 2004: Ville Linde - Presents first shots of Silent Scope (MAME driver). Don't expect these to be playable anytime soon.
